I wanted to pick three beaches that are the best in the world… but there are so many. I decided to pick three that had differing qualities to show how they may have very little in common other than the sand and water, and yet still be among the most beautiful.
Some people go to beaches in search of adventure or sport, like surfing or beach volleyball. Some people go to beaches in search of seeing things they have never seen before, like snorkeling or diving. Some people go to beaches to find peace and relaxation through sights, sounds, and smells.
The first beach I chose is Pink Sand Beach in Harbor Island in the Bahamas. The sand is pink, and the waters are very calm. The beach is three miles long so no matter how many tourists are there, it seems like you have a little bit of heaven all to yourself. “The color of Pink Sands Beach comes from the reddish pink shells of microscopic coral insects called Foraminifera. When these insects die, they leave behind their shells. Their shells are then crushed by the waves and brought to the shore to mix in with the sand, thus giving Pink Sand Beach its lovely hue.” (The World’s Most Famous Beach, pg 1.) The waters are so calm because of the Devil’s Backbone Coral Reef. It diverts the strength and calms the waves.
